The Weekly Pour: Dive Bar at the End of the Road by Kelley Armstrong

How do you know it’s Spooky Season? When new release Tuesday hands you a pileup, a storm, and a bar with no cell signal, and honestly? We're thrilled. We just hope there are books in this bar…

Dive Bar at the End of the Road hits shelves today, October 6, and it might be the best reason we've had all year to stay inside after dark.

About the Book

Five strangers crash into each other — literally — on a rain-soaked backwoods road after a figure appears out of nowhere in their headlights. Banged up and stranded with no signal, they take shelter in the only building for miles: a cramped, dim dive bar that's seen better decades. Rescue is still hours out. That would be bad enough on its own.

It isn't on its own. Time starts behaving strangely inside the bar, stepping outside turns out to be a very bad idea, and something is moving in the trees that none of them can explain. Kelley Armstrong keeps the whole thing locked in one room for one very long night, and we read the back half with the lights on, which is exactly the endorsement you think it is.

Genre: Supernatural Horror / Survival Thriller

Perfect for fans of: The Cabin at the End of the World by Paul Tremblay and Bird Box by Josh Malerman.

This Week’s Pour

A book that takes place entirely inside a dive bar deserves a pour that actually belongs in one, so we're keeping it simple with Mother Earth’s Tierra Madre Lager - no frills, nothing fussy, exactly what you'd order if you were trying to wait out a storm (and whatever else is out there) until sunrise.

Keeping it alcohol-free? Order the Sockeye Hop Water — all the bar-order energy, none of the risk of making questionable decisions before midnight.

However you take it: lock the door, keep your group close, and do not, under any circumstances, go check on that noise outside. We're serious. We watched these five learn that lesson the hard way.
