Behind the Bookshelf: The Story of The Book Lounge
"The Book Lounge, Meridian Idaho's first fiction-and-wine lounge, is taking shape on E. Idaho Ave. — and today we're pulling back the curtain on the why and the who behind it. If you’ve walked past our construction site lately, you’ve probably seen more concrete than comfy chairs and books. But behind the plywood and the "Coming Soon" signs, something special is brewing (literally).
Today, we’re taking a break from the floor plans to share the "why" behind The Book Lounge, the newest independent bookstore in Meridian, Idaho, and introduce you to the team making this dream a reality.
A Vision for Fiction, Wine, and Community in Meridian, Idaho
The idea for The Book Lounge started with a simple, slightly stubborn belief: Fiction deserves its own stage. In a world that’s constantly rushing, we wanted to create a sanctuary where you can get lost in a narrative without the distraction of self-help manuals or cookbooks. We envisioned a space that feels like your coolest friend’s living room—if that friend happened to have a world-class library and a perfectly stocked bar.
By pairing new fiction releases with curated wines and Idaho craft beers, we’re building more than a retail shop; we’re building a destination for "the deep dive" where wine and books in Meridian are the perfect pair. Whether you’re a fan of psychological thrillers, sweeping historical sagas, or gritty contemporary prose, we want to provide the atmosphere (and the glass) to match.
Meet the Team: The Women Behind The Book Lounge
Every great story has a cast of characters, and ours is a small but mighty group of Treasure Valley locals who are obsessed with bringing the written word to The Book Lounge in Meridian.
Emily McClung | Chief Visionary Officer: Emily is the origin story. The one who looked at the Treasure Valley and said "but what if there was a place where you could drink a really good Syrah and argue about whether that ending was earned?" — and then refused to let the idea go until it became a floor plan, a business license, and eventually, your new favorite third place. She's the reason The Book Lounge exists, and she'll be the first one to tell you the whole thing started over a bottle of wine. Some origin stories are perfectly on-brand.
Kaeleigh Stewart | Chief Literary Officer: Kaeleigh is the one responsible for every book on our shelves — which means she's also responsible for every hour of sleep you're about to lose. She approaches curation the way a sommelier approaches a cellar: with strong opinions, a deep knowledge of what pairs well together, and zero apologies for steering you toward something you didn't know you needed. If you walk out with a book you've never heard of and can't put down, that's Kaeleigh. She accepts thank-you notes and well-earned spoiler complaints in equal measure.
Kelsey Stech | Chief Community Weaver: Kelsey is the reason The Book Lounge will feel less like a business and more like a group chat you actually want to be in. She's the architect of connection — the events, the author encounters, the book club nights where strangers become regulars and regulars become friends. If you've already found us on Instagram, traded recommendations in our comments, or spotted us at a Treasure Valley market, you've already felt her work. She believes great communities, like great fiction, are built one compelling character at a time.
Amelia Gale | Chief of Online & Onsite Operations: Amelia is the reason everything actually works. While the rest of the team is busy falling in love with books and dreaming up cocktail pairings, Amelia is the one making sure the lights are on, the website loads, the orders arrive, and the experience from your first click to your last sip feels completely seamless. She is, in the most literary sense, the narrator keeping the whole story together — reliable, essential, and quietly doing more than anyone realizes until you stop and wonder how it all runs so smoothly. Now you know.
